The JSerra Girls Basketball team impressively took down another opponent on the road Saturday night, as the Lions dispatched the Huntington Beach Oilers 69-37 in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 3A playoffs at Huntington Beach High.
JSerra is now 20-9 on the season and will host Oakwood in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday night.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Fueled by their defense, the Lions raced to a 21-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to 22 points by the end of the first half.
Lions head coach Chyanne Butler acknowledged that her team followed her pre-game message of opening the game strong and continuing to play hard despite a big lead.
"We wanted to come out and play hard, aggressive, and get up on them early," Butler said. "I told them to stay in the game no matter what the score was and play like it was 0-0."
Freshman Rosie Santos spearheaded the decisive victory, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and scoring a team-high 18 points.
Santos mentioned that she was fueled by her coaches telling her to be aggressive on the offensive end.
"My coaches always tell me to shoot the ball more and I had that message in my head," Santos said.
Santos was also stellar on defense, producing a game-high eight steals.
Freshman Addie Nolan added 13 points and dished out a team-best five assists.
Freshman Eden Hoff scored 12 points and collected five rebounds, while freshman Shae Talleur chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.
Lions freshman Katherine Nowak was stellar on the boards, grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.
