The JSerra Girls Basketball team might be short on experience, but they played with the moxie of a veteran club on Wednesday evening, and it led to them adding to their impressive early season start.
Freshman Addie Nolan scored a team-high 21 points, while fellow freshman Rosie Santos added 19 points, as the Lions picked up an impressive 65-58 road victory over Pacifica Christian.
Freshman Shae Talleur scored 18 points, as JSerra improved to 10-1 on the season.
The Lions charged to a 20-point first half lead that stood at 29-17 at halftime, but the Titans continued to chip away at the advantage in the second half and eventually whittled the lead down to a point with under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
But Santos was clutch down the stretch, scoring 10 points in the final 3:28 to help the Lions close out the game on a 13-6 spurt that sealed the victory.
"They got back into it and we kind of let their intensity make us a bit frantic," Butler said. "But at the end of the day, we closed it out."
Santos supplemented her scoring output with another stat-stuffing effort, as she collected nine rebounds, eight steals, and seven assists.
The Lions are next scheduled to be in action next Wednesday, when they begin play in the Lady Pirate Holiday Classic at San Pedro High.
Butler knows there is still work to be done and improvements to be made, but is pleased with how the team has played in the season's first month.
"We have a lot to work on, but I'm happy with where we are right now," Butler said.
